Overview
The right input depends on what you already have: manual control, organized text, extractable PDF, Anki collection, or a batch that needs editing.
Which path should you use?
Manual is for full control; text and PDF use AI for editable drafts; Anki imports existing content; batch editing helps review volume before saving.
Manual creation
The user writes the question and answer. It does not depend on AI and remains a first-class option when the material is already well decomposed.
Text to cards
Text moves through generation, drafts, editing, and saving. AI reduces preparation, but does not guarantee accuracy, comprehension, or correct priority.
PDF to cards
PDF depends on its own entitlement, private upload, text extraction, and editable card generation. Scanned, poor, encrypted, or ambiguous PDF files can limit the result.
Import Anki
The `.apkg` import brings compatible cards/decks into staging, mapping, preview, and commit. Templates, add-ons, and Anki scheduling history do not become equivalent behavior.
Bulk editing
After generating or importing volume, the editor supports reviewing, editing, adding, duplicating, removing, and saving valid candidates according to the current flow.
Preview before saving
Automation reduces typing; human review remains important. Generated or imported content stays editable before it moves into the cycle.
What happens next
Input, editing, Card Health, activation, and Review are separate steps; saving cards does not necessarily mean reviewing them immediately.
Quality and activation
Card Health evaluates current-card structure for manual, generated, and imported cards. Activation Queue controls admission of new workload.
Where AI enters
AI participates in text and PDF when applicable. It does not decide manual creation, structural import, scheduler, Recall Integrity, deterministic Card Health, Activation Queue, or metrics.

Availability, plan, rollout, and limits must come from the PublicCapabilityRegistry; this page does not publish a parallel commercial table.
Limitations
Generated content needs review; PDF depends on extraction; Anki import does not cover the whole external ecosystem; many cards can wait for activation; Health does not verify absolute factual truth.
Which path would I choose?
Few cards: manual. Organized text: text/AI. Long PDF material: PDF when available. Existing collection: Anki. Large volume: review in bulk before activation.
